James L. Messenger

Jim represented YSD Industries, Inc. in the employee buyout of the interest of Lamson and Sessions, Inc. in what was formerly known as The Youngstown Steel Door Company.  Moreover, Jim has represented many school boards, local governmental bodies as well as private businesses in the Youngstown area in labor and employment matters for a number of years.  He has negotiated countless labor agreements, and has represented employers before state and federal courts and arbitrators in adversary proceedings.  He is recognized as an excellent trial attorney and negotiator and has argued before the United States Supreme Court and the Supreme Court of Ohio.  His primary areas of concentration consist of general and corporate civil trial practice, labor and employment law, and family law.  Jim has served as special counsel for the Ohio Attorney General.  Since 1991 he has been a member of the City of Youngstown Civil Service Commission, and currently is its president.

Christopher J. Newman

Chris is a member of the Ohio Council of School Board Attorneys on which he served as a member of the Executive Committee from 1984 through 1991.  He served as chairman of this organization in 1990.  He served as a trustee of the Mahoning County Bar Association from 1983 to 1986, and served on the Board of Directors of the Northeast Ohio Legal Services Corporation.  Chris's primary areas of concentration are real estate, labor and employment law, workers compensation defense, and commercial and civil litigation.  He has extensive experience in labor arbitrations and labor negotiations in the public and private sectors.   He also has substantial experience in federal, state, and local courts.  He has been counsel to the Better Business Bureau of Mahoning Valley, Inc. since 1976, and serves on its Executive Committee.  Chris is a member of the Mahoning County and Ohio State Bar Associations.

Richard J. Thomas

Rick began his practice in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he was associated with the Pittsburgh office of the Philadelphia law firm of Klehr, Harrison, Harvey, Branzburg, Ellers and Weir, an office which was formed primarily to aid the financially troubled Equibank.  Rick joined this firm in 1987 and immediately began to develop the firm's banking practice.   Rick's primary areas of concentration are commercial trial and appellate litigation, banking, creditor's rights and bankruptcy.  He has represented banks in Ohio and Pennsylvania in a broad variety of matters and financial institutions in merger transactions. Rick also has an active litigation practice in Ohio and Pennsylvania and has handled numerous cases in state and federal trial and appellate courts.  He is a member of the Ohio, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations, as well as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Rick has also served on the Mahoning County Bar Association's Grievance Committee, and served on the Board of the Youngstown Hearing and Speech Center.  Currently, he serves on the Board of the Youngstown Peace Race and the St. Maron Education Foundation.

David K. Holmquist

Dave is a director, general counsel and corporate secretary for Reichard Industries, Inc. and Fireline, Inc., among others.  He was also general counsel and secretary of Ajax Magnethermic Corporation.  He counseled Fireline, Inc. in forming a federally-approved ESOP, and serves as its trustee.  Prior to joining the firm in 1979, Dave was in-house counsel to Ajax Magnethermic Corporation.  His practice is concentrated in the areas of mergers, acquisitions, corporate law, contract negotiation and documentation, labor relations and retirement plans.  In addition to his legal practice, he has been very active in the community.  He was an organizer and founder of the Ohio Performing Arts Company, a non-profit professional touring children's theater, and the Fine Arts Music Education Conservatory.   Dave has served as chairman of the Corporate Counsel Section of the Ohio Bar Association (1975-1976), of which he has been a member since 1971.  He is also a member of the Mahoning and Trumbull County Bar Associations.

Jerry M. Bryan

Jerry became a partner in 1998 and is a member of the Ohio State and Mahoning County Bar Associations, currently serving the local bar on the attorney fee dispute and public relations committees.  He was an adjunct professor of Business Law and Ethics at Kent State University for ten years, and he is active in many community organizations, including the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, the Youngstown Lions Club, Steel Valley Homes for Youth, and the Youngstown Club.  In 2005 he was recognized as one of the top five young professionals in the Mahoning Valley.  Jerry has a broad base of legal experience in all areas of the firm's practice, concentrating in business and corporate law, bankruptcy, foreclosures, collections and commercial litigation, as well as probate and general litigation.
